How to use our nine different question types

Classtime currently offers 11 types of Questions to create and share with your students:

Multiple Choice

Answer Input

Students will see all answer options and need to select ONE correct answer from multiple choices.

Validation

The student answer is automatically validated. You need to provide the correct solution when creating the Question. You can add as many answer options as you want.

Checkboxes

Answer Input

Students will see all answer options and need to select ALL (ONE or MORE) correct answer by checking the correct answer boxes.

Validation

The student answer is automatically validated. You need to provide all correct solutions when creating the Question. You can add as many answer options as you want.

True or False

Answer Input

Students will only have two options: TRUE or FALSE. They need to select one of both options.

Validation

The student answer is automatically validated. You need to provide the correct solution when creating the Question.

Free Text Answer

Answer Input

Students can enter a text in free form and unlimited length.

Validation

The student answer is manually validated by you in the Session dashboard. You can select a yellow answer cell (with a 'View-Eye') and validate the answer as correct or incorrect. Use our AI validation to quickly grade these answers, learn more here.
Important: Classtime will bundle all identical student answers, allowing you to immediately validate multiple answers of your students. This saves you a lot of time. Also, once you've validated an answer, Classtime will remember and automatically validate any newly incoming answers in the future - even if you're reusing the Question in new Session!

Long Text (Essay)

Empower your students to craft well-structured and in-depth responses that showcase their true understanding with our "Long Text (Essay)" question type. Educators have the freedom to choose whether to receive concise answers or delve into the depths of your students' creativity with full-length essays!

A range of text formatting options are available to students including bold, italic, underline, and font sizes. Add a “Long Text (Essay)” to your question set with the following steps:

  1. Choose the new question type in the dropdown

  2. Specify your question, and further information in the question description field, if needed (e.g., expected length, grading criteria, etc)

  3. Use all other question editing options available if needed

Answer Input

Students will see a field where they will be able to write their answer, use rich formatting options, see a word count, and save a draft.

Validation

The student answer is manually validated by teachers in the Session dashboard. Select a yellow answer cell (with a 'View-Eye') and validate the answer as correct or incorrect.

Sorter

Answer Input

Students will see a randomly sorted list of items. Each item can be drag and dropped vertically, enabling the student to sort them freely.

Validation

The student answer is automatically validated. You need to provide the correct order of items when creating the Question. Classtime will randomly shuffle all sorting items for each student individually.

Students will see a categorization table and need to select the corresponding correct item (row) per category (column). Every item corresponds to exactly one category.

The student answer is automatically validated. You need to provide the correct solution when creating the Question.

Students select words, sentences, or paragraphs to provide an answer to your question. One or more elements can be marked as correct.

Hot Spot

Answer Input

Students can put a SINGLE or MULTIPLE spot(s) on an image to specify the correct answer(s).

Validation

The student answer is automatically validated. You need to provide the correct hot spot area(s) when creating the Question. You also need to define if you expect students to identify a SINGLE or MULTIPLE hot spots.

Fill-in-the-gap

Fill-in-the-gap questions can be used to assess reading comprehension, check grammar, name an object in a picture, and provide an effective way for teachers to measure students’ depth of knowledge. With Classtime, you have two fill-in-the-gap options: free-text and multiple-choice dropdowns.

First, prepare your fill-in-the-gap question by entering text, highlighting the text that you would like to convert into a gap, and deciding between a free-text, choice dropdown, or both:

Students will see a gap and need to fill in the correct phrase or word that completes the sentence.

Choices:

Students will click on the gap and select the correct answer from a list of options.

Provide the correct answer in the solution explanation, and your students’ answers will automatically be validated:
